COVID grips IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey tests positive

Synopsis

Michael Hussey has been the Chennai Super Kings batting coach since 2018 and helped the side win its third Indian Premier League title the same year. The 2021 Indian Premier League has been suspended owing to increased bubble breaches by COVID.

The fallout of the suspended Indian Premier League 2021 continues with more participants testing COVID positive. As for the latest, Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey has tested positive.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Hussey had reported mild symptoms and is now expected to stay in isolation for around ten days in Delhi. He has become the first overseas participant to test positive. While he had tested positive on Tuesday, CSK waited until Wednesday for the result of a re-test to confirm the same.

As a result, Hussey would now not join the rest of the Australians to travel to either Maldives or Sri Lanka. The Australians would have to wait until May 15, as Australia has currently suspended the travel services between the two countries. In the meantime, Cricket Australia is working with the Board of Control for Cricket in India to help the Australians reach home safe and sound.

"We've spoken to Mike today. He is in good spirits. His symptoms are relatively mild. He is in a stint of isolation in his hotel room...he has good support systems around him," said Australian Cricketers' Association CEO Todd Greenberg.

Hussey has also become the third CSK member to test positive after Laxmipathy Balaji (bowling coach) and a bus cleaner. Currently, the entire CSK contingent is on a week-long quarantine, as per the guidelines set by the IPL Governing Council.
