Coronavirus outbreak: Mahela Jayawardene lauds Malayalis after seeing this picture from Kerala

Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene has praised Malayalis after he saw a picture from Kerala amidst the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) across the globe

Bengaluru: “Social distancing” has been advised across the world due to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). And in Kerala, people have been following it even at liquor shops as they queued up to buy alcohol.

A pictures and videos of Malayalis maintaining distance in queues while buying liquor in Kerala have gone viral on social media. One of the images caught the attention of former Sri Lankan cricket team captain Mahela Jayawardene.

A journalist had tweeted a picture of Malayalis standing in a queue by maintaining distance in their fight against coronavirus. This picture was seen by Jayawardene on Twitter and he replied to it but appreciating Keralites. However, he added that it was not the time to drink alcohol.

The 42-year-old Jayawardene wrote on his Twitter page, “Probably not what they should be buying but distance is good.”

So far, there have haven more than 200 coronavirus cases reported in India and four have lost their lives. Tomorrow (March 22), Indians have been asked to observe Janta Curfew by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
