COVID-infected Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister Doraikkannu passes away

Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu was hospitalised on October 13 while he was on his way to Salem to condole the death of state Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami's mother. Doraikkannu was on life support after his condition deteriorated some days ago.

Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu died of Coronavirus late Saturday night, a senior official at Kauvery Hospital said.

He was hospitalised on October 13 while he was on his way to Salem to condole the death of state Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami's mother.  

Doraikkannu was on life support after his condition deteriorated some days ago. 

According to the medical bulletin, the 72-year-old passed away at 11.15pm.

Doraikkannu's demise has reduced the AIADMK tally in the state assembly down to 123. 

As there are only seven months left for the general elections, by-election will not be held for Doraikkannu's Papanasam constituency from where he was elected in 2006, 2011, and 2016.
