The chief minister said that even though many people have been advising him against imposing a lockdown in the state if the situation does not improve in the next couple of days, he would be forced to take the step.

Stating that people can avoid the lockdown if they really wanted, Uddhav appealed to the people, "livelihood is important, but the life of a person is more important. We can get a job later, but not life."

Urging opposition parties against playing politics during the pandemic situation, Uddhav said that over the next two days, he would consult political parties and experts and make a decision about the lockdown.

Giving an update on the Covid infrastructure, Uddhav said that currently, 62 per cent of the beds were occupied by Covid-19 positive patients.

"Even after vaccination, some people are getting infected because they stop wearing masks. If the present situation continues, then there will be a heavy burden over present health infrastructure," he said.

Lamenting that people had off-late started taking things lightly and started attending weddings, parties and other events, the chief minister said that since March 2021, the virus started spreading rapidly.

"In Mumbai, 300-350 positive cases were being reported per day since the end of January 2021. Today, an average of 8000 cases are being reported per day in Mumbai," he said.
