Maharashtra: Fire at Covid Centre in Virar kills 13 patients

Hospital officials said that 21 patients, including those in critical condition, have been shifted to another hospital.


Thirteen patients at the Covid centre in Virar in Maharashtra's Palghar district have been killed after a fire broke out at the facility.  

Media reports said that there were 15 patients in the Intensive Care Unit of the Vijay Vallabh Hospital located in Virar West.

A short circuit in the air-conditioning is suspected to be the cause of the fire.

Hospital officials said that 21 patients, including those in critical condition, have been shifted to another hospital.

The mishap comes days after 24 Covid patients lost the lives after an oxygen leak at the Zakir Hussain municipal hospital in Nashik.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in the mishap.
