As China continues to grapple with the aftermath of severe rainfall, flooding, another natural phenomenon has struck the nation --- a sandstorm. The dramatic footage of a sandstorm engulfing a city in northwestern China has left people puzzled. The storm with dust clouds towering at least 100 metres high hit Dunhuang city in Gansu Province recently.

The city which is located on the edge of the Gobi Desert, is known for its harsh climate. Once part of the Silk Road, Dunhuang is now best known for UNESCO World Heritage site the Mogao Grottoes. Authorities had issued a 'yellow warning' and local police sprung into action, like helping traffic and ordering drivers to pull over until the storm had passed.
