Mumbai’s BFSI job market is shifting beyond traditional financial hubs, with satellite markets accounting for 44.1 per cent of job postings in FY26 as hiring increasingly moves towards credit, fintech, insurance and customer-facing roles, according to data released by Apna, a job search and professional networking platform.The trend is expected to create more employment opportunities across the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), particularly for early-career candidates, even as overall BFSI hiring remained flat year-on-year in the first quarter of FY27 after growing 13.7 per cent in FY26.Satellite Markets Drive GrowthSatellite MMR markets accounted for 42.2 per cent of BFSI postings in Q1 FY27. Hiring in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Panvel grew 26 per cent, 11.2 per cent and 150 per cent year-on-year, respectively, during the quarter. The release said Panvel’s sharp increase came from a smaller base, while Navi Mumbai and Thane were more established hiring centres.Shift in Job Roles and Business MixThe shift is also visible in the type of jobs being created. Credit-card hiring rose 14 per cent year-on-year in Q1 FY27, while lending and loan sales grew 14.9 per cent and insurance hiring increased 22.7 per cent. Collections and recovery jobs grew 4.7 per cent. Fintech and payments employers recorded a doubling in hiring during the quarter, while traditional financial-services and broking employers contracted, indicating a change in the mix of businesses generating BFSI jobs.Accessibility for Young TalentThe market is also becoming more accessible to younger workers. As many as 98.2 per cent of BFSI postings in Q1 FY27 were open to candidates with up to three years of experience, while 50.2 per cent required no prior experience. Entry-level opportunities in credit cards grew 71.3 per cent in FY26, followed by collections and recovery at 34.4 per cent and lending and loan sales at 20.4 per cent. In contrast, fresher-friendly banking operations roles declined 39.6 per cent.Kartik Narayan, CEO, Apna, said the shift represented “a structural change in how BFSI businesses go to market”, as the wider reach of credit, insurance and digital financial products was creating demand for a distributed workforce. “This is moving employment closer to emerging customer markets and creating more entry points for young talent,” he said.Rise in Tech-Linked RolesTechnology-linked BFSI postings also more than tripled year-on-year in Q1 FY27, although from a low base, covering roles including relationship managers, collection executives and digital-banking executives.For employers, the shift is widening access to talent across the MMR, while giving early-career jobseekers more opportunities to enter financial services through roles beyond traditional financial centers and conventional banking functions.(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by Asianet Newsable English staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)
