Dual airbags are mandatory in cars from April 1

The Road Transport ministry has released a gazette notification stating that new model vehicles manufactured on and after April 1, 2021, shall be fitted with an airbag for the person occupying the front seat, other than the driver 

The central government has made it mandatory for vehicle manufacturers to attach airbag for the person occupying the front seat next to the driver.

In the case of existing models, the deadline has been set for August 31, 2021.

The new rules are based on the suggestions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.
