With thousands of Afghans fleeing the nation since the Taliban's takeover, home rental firm Airbnb said on Tuesday that it would provide free accommodation to 20,000 Afghan refugees worldwide.
This was disclosed in a series of tweets by co-founder Brian Chesky. "If you are interested in hosting a refugee family, please contact out and I will link you with the proper individuals here to make it happen," he added.

Starting today, Airbnb will begin housing 20,000 Afghan refugees globally for free.

"The displacement and resettlement of Afghan refugees in the US and elsewhere is one of the biggest humanitarian crises of our time. We feel a responsibility to step up. I hope this inspires other business leaders to do the same. There's no time to waste," he added.

It stated that it will work with resettlement agencies and others "to go where the need goes" and that the programme and its assistance would evolve as needed.
According to the business, the cost of the accommodations would be covered by contributions from Airbnb and Chesky and donors to the Airbnb.org Refugee Fund. Airbnb collaborates closely with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and partner organisations to assist Afghan refugees.

On August 15, Taliban rebels stormed Kabul as the US-backed Afghan government fell and President Ashraf Ghani fled the country, thus ending a two-decade drive by the US and its allies to change the war-torn nation. Since the Taliban took control of Kabul, the world has been riveted by the horrific sights unfolding at the airport. Afghans surged onto the tarmac in large numbers, with some clinging to a US military transport jet as it took off, eventually plummeting to their deaths.
