Fire breaks out in engine of Machilipatnam Express, major mishap averted

A major fire disaster was averted on the Secunderabad bound Machilipatnam Express on Friday night.

Machilipatnam – Secunderabad Express which started in Machilipatnam at 8:40 pm was supposed to reach Vijayawada at 11:00 pm. But the loco pilot noticed the fire in the engine and immediately stopped the train at Indupalli Railway Station in Unguturu mandal of Krishna district at 10:30 pm.

The driver alerted the Railway officials who called in the fire brigade which immediately doused the fire. The first two compartments behind the engine were evacuated as a safety measure.

Later an engine was brought in from Vijayawada and the train continued on its journey with the new engine.

Short circuit in the engine is said to be the reason for the mishap. Railway authorities and passengers appreciated the quick thinking of the train driver in averting a huge disaster.
