In a major mishap, an APSRTC (Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation) Metro Express bus in Vijayawada ran amok at the Budameru flyover near Ajith Singh Nagar killing three persons and injuring another three of which two were said to be critical.
The incident took place on Friday morning when the bus which was on its way from Vambhay Colony to PNBS (Pandit Nehru Bus Station) had a brake failure. Among those killed were Kurshid (32) and Ashrat (12), natives of Mylavaram and belonging to the same family. Details of the other person who succumbed to injuries are not known.
Kurshid and Ashrat along with the other family members were on their way to their relatives’ house to offer condolences.
The bus driver lost control of the bus after its brakes failed and ran into road users hitting a bike, an autorickshaw and few other vehicles before finally hitting a tipper lorry and coming to a grinding halt. One autorickshaw and four two-wheelers were destroyed in the accident.
If the bus had fallen over the flyover, its impact would have been more.
Police rushed to the spot and doused the fire which erupted from the engine.
