Bengaluru: With the BBMP cracking down on Plaster of Paris Ganesha idol makers over the last 10 days, the appeal from CM BS Yediyurappa of shunning the practice of using PoP idols, and elected representatives distributing clay idols, and a 30-foot idol made out of coconut, eco-friendly celebrations have become the major attraction of this year's Ganesha Chaturthi.
As many water bodies in Bengaluru have been polluted due to garbage and sewage and immersion of idols made out of PoP over the years, this time the Karnataka CM, MLAs and corporators and others are batting for eco-friendly Ganesha festival celebrations. Among the advocates of eco-friendly celebrations was Jayanagar MLA Sowmya Reddy, who distributed 5000 clay and seed idols and made an appealed to donate to flood victims. In JP Nagar, a 30-foot Ganesha idol made of coconut is on display and once the celebrations are over, the idol along with its pandal made of vegetables will be given to devotees as prasadam.
