JDS leader GT Devegowda: Few party leaders want to support BJP, decision left to Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: After the collapse of the HD Kumaraswamy government in Karnataka on Tuesday (July 23), Yediyurappa of the BJP took over as the chief minister of the state on Friday (July 26). 

Soon after, the JD(S) leaders decided to gather at the Taj West End Hotel in Bengaluru to plan the party's future course of action. According to former minister and party leader GT Devegowda, some legislators wanted to remain in the opposition, while others seemed interested in the party supporting the BJP.

Former minister GT Devegowda said, “We all need to be united. We need to discuss what needs to be done next. We need to oppose the government when it takes up anti-people policies.” While speaking about what occurred in the meeting, Gowda said, “A few others told us in the meeting that we need to support the BJP. The right to take a decision in this regard is left to Kumaraswamy.”

Going by past experiences in 2006 and 2007, Yediyurappa had earlier ruled out any chance of the BJP aligning with the JD(S).
