Bengaluru: After repeated warnings from the Karnataka high court about clearing footpath encroachments on KR Market, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) of Friday morning razed over 200 illegal shops. Joint commissioner for solid waste management (SWM), Sarfaraz Khan spoke to Newsable stating that hawkers and shop keepers have been warned time again and the BBMP had cleared up hawkers in the past, but with the existence of a nexus of rowdy elements and officials in the area, illegal shops were erected. "We took the police and marshal's help and cleared illegal shops. We pressed six JCB machines into actions and demolished most of the illegal structures. There are 28 more such shops and the owners have obtained a stay issued by the court. The BBMP commissioner has said that he will appeal before the high court and obtain orders to clear those shops too," Khan said.
