One of the most revered mutts in Tamil Madu, Kanchi mutt, is enveloped in gloom. The seer leading the mutt, Jayendra Saraswathi (fondly known as Shankaracharya) suffered from breathing trouble and was rushed to the hospital.

 

He breathed his last today. He died at the age of 83. He was the 69th leader of the mutt, having taken charge in the year 1994.

 

Jayendra Saraswathi made headlines when he passed through a tough phase while fighting the Shankarraman case in 2004.

Condolences have been pouring in from across the nation. Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj too tweeted expressing her grief over the swamiji's death.

His subordinates in the Kanchi mutt have released statements in the press talking about the circumstances of his death.
