Cristiano Ronaldo is back home, as he has re-signed with Manchester United on a reported two-year deal. However, confusion surrounds regarding his jersey number at Old Trafford.

Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo remains in the headlines to have made his staggering return to Manchester United. He is reportedly signing a two-year contract worth £480,000 a week, which seems to be his final two years in professional football before hanging up his boots.

Meanwhile, ahead of his return, excitement is evident among the United fans and United management. However, there seems to be confusion regarding the number he would wear at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo traditionally wears the number seven jersey. However, the number is currently occupied by Edinson Cavani. As of now, it is unclear if the Uruguayan would give up the number for Ronnie.

Furthermore, English Premier League rules bar the change of number mid-season unless the player leaves the club. Therefore, if such a situation arises, Ronaldo might wear the number 28 jersey he initially requested when he arrived at United in 2003, reports SportBible.

He was denied the number 28 jersey, and following David Beckham's move to Real Madrid, he was handed the number seven jersey. Since then, Ronaldo has always worn the number seven jersey wherever he has played, barring a season in Madrid, during which he wore number nine, as number seven was worn by club legend Raul.

As of now, United has not revealed Ronaldo's number or has given any hint on it. However, it seems like Cavani is keeping the number seven shirt for now, as it appears to be his final season at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has yet to undergo his medical to complete the move, expected to occur in Lisbon on Sunday. Furthermore, he is expected to play his first game against Newcastle United at home on September 11.
