Tokyo Olympics: Mirabai Chanu claims silver in Women's 49kg weightlifting, PM Narendra Modi congratulates her

Synopsis

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics saw India opening its account in the medals department, as Mirabai Chanu bagged a silver in the Women's 49kg weightlifting. She pulled off a total of 20kg. Following the same, the Indian Prime Minister congratulated her.

In what came as the opening proud moment for India, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu bagged a silver in the Women's 49kg weightlifting category on Saturday. It was India's first medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Chanu lifted a total of 202kg, as she looked relatively comfortable throughout. As for the gold medal, it was claimed by China's ZH Hou,  while Indonesia's WC Aisah claimed the bronze.

Chanu lifted 84kg in her opening attempt, followed by 97 in the next try, but failed to lift the 89kg. In Clean and Jerk, he successfully lifted 110kg and 115kg.

Following Chanu's success, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her on her success. Also, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur sent out his congratulatory message and best wishes.
