Sreeshankar stamps authority, wins long jump at Indian Athletics Series

Synopsis

Kerala's Murali Sreeshankar, an Asian Games silver medallist, won the men's long jump title at the sixth leg of the Indian Athletics Series in Chennai with a jump of 8.04m. The event also featured a close 110m hurdles race.

Asian Games silver medallist in men's long jump, Murali Sreeshankar, stamped his authority during the sixth leg of the Indian Athletics Series. Kerala's 27-year-old international athlete recorded a jump of 8.04m to win the men's long jump title at Chennai's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

Of the six legal attempts, the star long jumper had three legal jumps. His second jump was 7.90m, while his fourth attempt was 8.04m. He dug deep in his last and final attempt to further improve his performance, but settled for 7.97m, as per a press release from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Earlier in April, he recorded a jump of 8.15m, a season best during a domestic meet in Bengaluru. Recently, during the South African exposure tour, he recorded a jump of 8.12m.

There was an exciting contest in the men's 110m hurdles. Tejas Ashok Shirse (Reliance) and Krishik M (Reliance) battled for first place, but it was the former who stole the show with a time of 13.43 secs. Krishik was in close second with a time of 13.44 secs.

In the men's 400m hurdles, all three medal winners dipped below 50 seconds. Santhosh Kumar T (NCOE Trivandrum) was the winner with a time of 49.47 secs.
