Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull delivered a scathing assessment of Kolkata Knight Riders’ marquee signing Cameron Green after another poor outing in the IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings on April 14.
Green, bought for ₹25.20 crores in the auction, has failed to deliver with bat and ball this season. After five matches, he averages just 14 with the bat and 58 with the ball, conceding runs at an economy of 14.50. Against CSK, he endured a nightmare, dismissed for a golden duck and leaking 30 runs in two overs.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Doull remarked: “He feels mentally not available. It was the shot of a guy who lacked confidence. He was all over the place playing that delivery. It was another ordinary way to get out. They are not getting the value they expected from him. Where do they go with him?”
Doull suggested that KKR could consider replacing Green with Ravindra, either opening with Seifert or Allen and shifting Ravindra into the middle order. He argued that Kolkata needed to rethink their balance if they wanted another bowling option.
KKR’s struggles extend beyond Green. The franchise has lost four of their first five matches this season, continuing the poor run from last year when they finished eighth.
Doull also raised concerns about Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy. “The problem they’ve got is that there is no one who stands out that can take over from Rahane as captain. At least, Rahane is scoring runs even if it’s not at the clip he would like. Their captaincy options are limited,” he said.
Rahane remains KKR’s second‑highest run‑scorer this season with 152 runs at an average of 38 and a strike rate above 149. Doull noted that while Rahane’s leadership may not be inspiring, alternatives like Rinku Singh are struggling badly and not ready to take charge.
Despite Rahane’s contributions, KKR’s campaign has faltered, leaving them bottom of the standings. With Green’s form under scrutiny and captaincy questions looming, Kolkata faces mounting pressure to find solutions before their season slips further away.
