Sachin Tendulkar recalls fond memories with late PK Banerjee

Mumbai: Batting legend and former India captain Sachin Tendulkar has condoled the demise of Indian football great PK Banerjee.

Banerjee passed away on Friday (March 20) in Kolkata after a prolonged illness. He was 83. Banerjee led India at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He also played for India at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

At the Jakarta Asian Games in 1962, Banerjee was part of the gold-medal winning Indian team. He scored 65 international goals in 84 matches for India.

Tendulkar took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to condole the death of Banerjee. He said he has fond memories of meeting him.

“Heartfelt condolences on the passing of the great Indian footballer PK Banerjee! Have fond memories of meeting him on a few occasions and the positivity he spread. May his soul Rest In Peace!,” Tendulkar tweeted along with a picture of himself with Banjerjee and former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Friday.
