RR vs CSK, IPL 2025 highlights: Nitish, Hasaranga shine as Royals won by 6 runs

Ruturaj Gaikwad: Obvious in the PP (the key moment in the game). NItish batted well and we were not proactive knowing he was going behind square and we should have made him play in front of the wicket. 8-10 runs through misfields as well. We are trying to improve there. 180 was chasable. Still a good wicket if you hit the pockets. I was really happy at the innings break. They were looking good for 210, but 180 was chasable. (About him batting at No. 3) Over the years Ajinkya batted at 3 and Rayudu was taking care of middle-overs. We thought it would be better if I came a bit late to take care of the middle overs and Tripathi can bat aggressively at the top. Anyway it doesn't matter because I am getting to bat early in the three games (smiles). It was decided during the auction time and I don't have any problem with that. I can take risks when needed and rotate strike. Unfortunately we have not been getting the good starts but once we get that things will be different. (Positives) Noor as usual bowling well, Khaleel bowling well and Jaddu bhai bowled well as well. You need some momentum in the bowling department. I think once everything comes together and we have the momentum we will be a really good side.

Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by 6 runs to register their first win of the season. Royals bowling attack led by Wanindu Hasaranga restricted Super Kings to 176/6 in their pursuit of 183-run target. Hasaranga registered the figures of 4/34 in four overs.

WICKET! After a conceding a six and a four against Shivam Dube, Wanindu Hasaranga got rid of him. Hasaranga bowled a full delivery outside off stump at high speed. Dube hit a powerful drive to the right of extra cover. Parag dived to his side and managed to get his fingertips under the fast-moving ball. CSK need 109 off 60 alls.

WICKET! Wanindu Hasaranga bowled a short and slow delivery that bounced more than expected. Rahul Tripathi (22) went back to pull but mistimed it. The ball went to deep mid-wicket, where Shimron Hetmyer dived forward and took a clean catch. CSK need 129 off 72 balls to win.

After struggling to score runs, Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad switched their gears as they accelerated the Chennai Super Kings' innings in their pursuit of 183-run target. CSK need 141 off 84 balls to win.

WICKET! Rachin kept moving to the leg side and trying to cut or guide the ball with the swing. He missed twice, but Jofra got him on the third try. He got a thick outside edge, and Jurel took a clean catch. CSK need 183 off 114 balls to win.

Rajasthan Royals set the target of 183 for Chennai Super Kings to chase in 20 overs. Nitish Rana led the RR's batting with an innings of 81 off 36 balls, while skipper Riyan Parag made a vital contribution with a knock of 37 off 28 balls. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed, Matheesha Pathirana, and Noor Ahmad picked two wickets each.

After Riyan Parag's dismissal, Rajasthan Royals failed to keep up the momentum as they lost wickets of Jofra Archer (0) and Kumar Karthikeya (1). Maheesh Theekshana survived LBW call.

WICKET! Matheesha Pathirana bowled a perfect delivery right at the base of the off stump. It was hard to stop, and Riyan Parag ((37) tried to hit it across the line but missed. The ball swung in a little, and playing across the line made it even tougher for Riyan to hit.

WICKET! Ravindra Jadeja bowled a full delivery right in the slot. Wanindu Hasaranga (4) tried a big slog-sweep but hit the ball flat and low. It was a tough catch, but Vijay Shankar showed great athleticism by diving and getting his fingers under the ball just in time.

Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a very full delivery that seemed to be going down the leg side. Nitish Rana moved across to play a paddle shot but missed, and the ball hit the outer part of his front pad. There was no contact with the bat. However, ball-tracking showed that while the ball pitched and hit in line, it was missing the stumps

FIFTY! Nitish Rana brought up his first fifty of the season in just 21 balls. Khaleel Ahmed bowled a short delivery outside off stump. Nitish Rana stayed back and hit it over backward point for a four.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal's early dismissal, Nitish Rana and Sanju Samson steadied Rajasthan Royals innings. In the fifth over, Rana took on Ravichandran Ashwin by smashing for 17 runs, including two sixes and a four.

SIX! Jamie Overton bowled a short-of-length delivery angling across outside off. Nitish Rana leaned back to make some room and sliced it late, intentionally hitting it in the air. The ball just cleared Khaleel at third man.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK): We will bowl first. Looks a good wicket, better than the last game that was played here so we'll look to chase. So far so good, it was a quick turnaround, very little time for us but that's how the IPL is. We have to be ready. We have come here for the first time as a franchise, good to see all the love we've got. Two changes, Jamie Overton comes in for Sam Curran and Vijay Shankar for Deepak Hooda.

Riyan Parag (RR): Would've done the same as well. My hometown, been brought up here and played a lot of cricket here, surreal feeling to play in front of all these people. We've done well in small bits, it's about coming together and putting up a collective performance. Same team for us.

Ruturaj Gaikwad's Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first against Riyan Parag-led Rajasthan Royals in the 11th match of the IPL 2025 in Guwahati.

Shane Bond: Going good mate, we have a new crew this year but always nice to reconnect with some familiar faces from other teams and make some new friends as well. We had a really good lead-in, but obviously haven’t started the season as well as we would have wanted. But all in all, it is a pretty happy camp so hope we can put in a good performance tonight. Yeah, we said that coming here when we saw almost 90% yellow, wherever MS goes it is the same, CSK have a huge following wherever they play. Makes the atmosphere electric, they are always a good team to play against but this is our second home, we haven’t done too well here but hoping to turn things around tonight.

Our whole bowling unit hasn’t been as sharp as what we’d have liked to be, but we’ve got some experience as well, some IPL winners, some International experience but we haven’t been able to string a performance together. In terms of Jofra, he body physically is really good. I think he’s looking to put in a strong performance like the rest of the crew. We’ve talked about putting pressure on the opposition as a bowling group. It’s always nice to get that first victory under the belt, you are always under some pressure. Just hoping for an improved performance across the board and hopefully the result will take care of itself.
