Kynan Chenai: India's promising shooter in Rio Olympics 2016

Synopsis

Name: Kynan Chenai Discipline: Men's Trap (shooter) Achievements:  2008 Commonwealth Youth Games - Gold Trap Shooting in 2008 Asian Clay Championship - Silver

Enamoured by his father's love for shooting, Kynan Chenai decided to follow in his father's footsteps. His father, Darius Chenai, was the 2008 National Shooting Champion in "Shotgun Trap Shooting" and now runs his own business.

A 12-year-old Chenai began his training using a shotgun in 2003 under his father's watchful eye, he eventually turned to four-time Olympian Mansher Singh for more professional guidance.

The shooter bagged two gold medals with victories in the Junior Men's Trap shooting event at 50th & 51st National Shooting Championship. He also won the Trap event at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games.

Currently-ranked World No. 28, Kynan was in London when the Olympics were held there in 2012. Sadly, he was unable to attend the tournament given his tight academic schedule; the fact that he could not participate in the tournament troubled him more.

Shooting is not the only sport this Olympics hopeful excelled in, he even participated in free style swimming and field Hockey during his school days.

Outside his shooting profession, Kynan is fond of dogs. His family has three dogs - 2 Labradors and an Alsatian. These dogs have been with the family ever since they were puppies and Kynan has been contributing significantly in their upbringing. He looks after their needs and loves their company.

Chenai bagged a ticket to the Olympics when he won at the Asia Olympic Shooting qualifiers in January 2016 and will be seen in action at the Rio Olympics 2016 on August 7 for Men's Trap discipline.
