Kimi Raikkonen to retire at the end of Formula 1 2021 season

Kimi Raikkonen is a former Formula 1 world champion, having won during the 2007 season. He has announced that he would be retiring from the sport after the conclusion of the 2021 season.


Finnish motorsport racer Kimi Raikkonen has decided to bid farewell to the sport following the ongoing 2021 Formula One season. He happens to be a former world champion, having won during the 2007 F1 Championships.

In 2001, he made his debut with Sauber during the Australian Grand Prix before switching to Mclaren (2002-06), while he eventually won with Ferrari (2007-09). Between 2010-11, he left F1 to participate in Rallying and NASCAR before returning to the F1 circuit in 2012 with Lotus (2012-13).

He returned to Ferrari between 2014-18, while he is currently associated with 2019-21. He would be 42 by the time he retires at the end of the season.

"This is it. This will be my last season in Formula 1. This is a decision I did during last winter. It was not an easy decision, but after this season, it is time for new things. Even though the season is still on, I want to thank my family, all my teams, everyone involved in my racing career and especially all of you great fans that have been rooting for me all this time. Formula 1 might come to an end for me, but there is a lot more in life that I want to experience and enjoy. Raikkonen has struggled with his form this season. Having participated in 12 races this season, he failed to earn a podium finish. In contrast, his best finish has been tenth during the Azerbaijan and Hungarian GP, while gaining just a couple of points so far.
