IPL 2025, DC vs LSG highlights: Ashutosh Sharma shines as DC pull off 1-wicket win

Ashutosh Sharma: Took the lessons from last year. Missed out on finishing the game on a couple of occasions in the previous season. The whole year I focussed and visualised about it. Had the belief that if I play till the last over, anything can happen. Well played to Vipraj. I asked him to keep hitting. He was very calm under pressure. Want to dedicate this award to my mentor Shikhar paaji.

SIX! Ashutosh Sharma hit a maximum off Shahbaz Ahmed to take the team over the line. At one point, it did not look Delhi Capitals would chase down 210-run target set by Lucknow Super Giants after an early collapse. But, Ashutosh(66* off 31 balls) displayed his composure under pressure and helped the side chase down the target with three balls to spare. DC kicked off their campaign with a thrilling 1-wicket win. 

In the 18th over, Ashutosh Sharma smashed 17 runs to bring down the equation from 39 off 18 balls to 22 runs off 12 balls. 

Score - DC: 188/8 after 18 overs.

Chances of Delhi Capitals chasing down 210-run target looks slim as the side lost two wickets of Vipraj Nigam and Mitchell Starc. DC need 39 off 18 balls to win.

After Tristan Stubbs's wicket, Vipraj Nigam took charge of DC run-chase and accelerated the scoring run-rate to keep hopes of chasing down 210-run target.

WICKET! M Siddharth bowled a good-length delivery around leg stump. The ball gripped and turned, surprising Stubbs and beating his outside edge. It deflected off his back thigh and hit the stumps. Stubbs was furious. DC need 94 off 42 balls to win.

WICKET! Ravi Bishnoi bowled a full delivery at the stumps, right in the hitting zone for Faf du Plessis. Faf tried to slog but didn’t connect well, sending the ball high in the air. David Miller safely took the catch. DC need 144 of 78 balls to win.

WICKET! Axar Patel attempted a sweep shot to a length delivery on the stumps by Digvesh but mistimed it. The ball came off the inside half of the bat, leading to a simple catch at backward square leg. DC need 152 off 84 balls to win.

M Siddarth has further put Delhi Capitals under pressure as he dismissed Sameer Rizvi for 4. Faf du Plessis joined by Axar Patel at the crease. DC need 202 off 108 balls to win.

Shardul Thakur put Delhi Capitals' under pressure early on in their run-chase as he picked two wickets of Jake Fraser-McGurk (1) and Abhishek Porel (0). DC need 204 off 114 balls to win.

David Miller smashed two sixes off Mohit Sharma in the last two balls of the final over to help Lucknow Super Giants post a total of 209/8. Earlier, Mitchell Marsh (72) and Nicholas Pooran (75) wreaked havoc with their aggressive strokeplays, leaving Delhi Capitals bowlers clueless. DC need 210 runs to win.

After Nicholas Pooran's dismissal at 170/4, Lucknow Super Giants' batting collapsed as they lost four wickets in 24 runs.

WICKET! Kuldeep Yadav bowled a tossed-up googly outside off stump. Thakur stepped forward to drive but hit it straight to cover. Axar Patel made a strong throw to the stumps, and Abishek Porel completed the dismissal.

WICKET! Ayush Badoni steps forward to hit Kuldeep Yadav’s tossed-up delivery but doesn’t get enough height. Stubbs is in the right spot and takes an easy catch.

WICKET! Starc got good swing and some reverse swing. The ball moved in late, and Pooran tried to hit it hard but missed. The ball crashed into the stumps, knocking two of them down. Pooran walked back after scoring 75 off 30 balls.

WICKET! Kuldeep Yadav bowled a tossed-up delivery well outside off. Rishabh Pant stretched to hit it but misjudged the turn after it pitched. He tried to loft the shot, but the ball hit the bottom of his bat and went straight to long-off, where Faf took an easy reverse-cup catch.

Nicholas Pooran went bonkers against DC Tristan Stubbs as he smashed him for 28 runs, including 4 sixes and a four, in an over.

FIFTY! Well-deserved half-century for Nicholas Pooran. Tristan Stubbs bowled a high-pitched delivery, and Nicholas Pooran smashed it over long-on for a six. Pooran raised his bat to acknowledge crowd and the LSG dugout for their applause.

WICKET! Mukesh Kumar bowled a slightly slower delivery. Mitchell Marsh stayed firm and hit it hard towards long-on. However, he didn't get enough height, and the fielder at long-on took a comfortable catch. Marsh walked back after scoring a brilliant 72 off 36 balls.

Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran's aggressive batting approach take Lucknow Super Giants past 100-run mark in just 8.2 overs.

DROPPED! Sameer Rizvi dropped an easy catch of Nicholas Pooran, who was six-hitting spree in the 7th over. Vipraj Nigam bowls a short ball outside off. Pooran tries to cut it but gets a top edge. The ball goes towards backward point, but the fielder drops an easy catch. Pooran gets a lucky escape. Vipraj gave away 25 runs in an over.

Mitchell Marsh has put up an impressive display of his attacking approach as he notched up fifty in just 21 balls.

WICKET! Vipraj Nikam bowls a well-flighted delivery outside off stump. Markram tries to loft it towards long-off, but Starc takes a comfortable catch in the deep. The young spinner gets his first IPL wicket. Aiden Markramwalks back after scoring 15 off 13 balls. Nicholas Pooran joins Mitchell Marsh at the crease.

DC lead pacer Mitchell Starc conceded 20 runs in his 2nd over spell. Starc conceded a six against Aiden Markram before he gave away 14 runs to Australian compatriot Mitchell Marsh.

SIX! Mitchell Starc bowls a length ball on middle and leg, and Mitchell Marsh flicks it over deep square leg for a six. He smiles as the ball sails over the boundary.

Delhi Capitals' new recruit KL Rahul is not included in the team's opening match of the campaign against Lucknow Super Giants. As per the report, Rahul has been granted two-match leave by DC management as he and his wife, Athiya Shetty, are expecting their first child.

Axar Patel: We are going to bowl first. It's the dew factor, we don't want to take any risk, that's why we are bowling first. I have played with Pant before, he knows me and I know him. We know our tricks. I have played a lot for the Capitals, we have a well balanced side. There's dew sometimes, not always. I have been with DC since three years, I have been with the leadership group. I need to work accordingly. Need to think like a leader. Faf du Plessis, Stubbs, Starc and Fraser-McGurk are our four overseas.

Rishabh Pant: I wanted to bowl first but It's a good wicket so we can bat well and put up a good score. I have played for DC all my life, so a lot of emotions there. Preparations have been well, everyone is in the right shape and in the right frame of mind. Markram, Marsh, Pooran and Miller are our four overseas players.
