Indian rape accused in Zimbabwe identified

Synopsis

The identity of the Indian national who was arrested in Harare on charges of alleged rape has been revealed.

Krishna Satyanarayana Gandlur is a consultant for iTeamWorks - the in-stadia rights-holder for the ongoing India-Zimbabwe series - and was the individual at the centre of the rape controversy.

Two days before the allegations surfaced, Satyanarayana was seen giving away the 'Player of the Match' award to Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah after the third ODI.

The other Indian arrested along with Satyanarayana is believed to be Ravi Krishnan, a businessman based in Zambia.

The pair has been referred to the High Court for bail.

Rumours of a national cricketer being involved in the incident had spread like wildfire this past week, leading the Ministry of External affairs to clarify that the allegedly guilty party was an "Indian national" and not an "Indian cricketer".
