India recalls Parthiv Patel after 8 years, drops Gautam Gambhir

Parthiv Patel has made a comeback to the Indian Test team after eight years. The last time he played a Test match for India was against England back in 2008.

India have taken a crucial 1-0 lead in the ongoing Test series against England after the hosts trounced the visitors by 246 runs in the second Test in Vizag. Virat Kohli and co. have almost become an unstoppable force at home and England will have to deal with this powerhouse in the next three Test matches.

However, India have made a couple of changes to their squad as the BCCI selectors have decided to drop Gautam Gambhir because of his poor performance in the first Test. The veteran left-handed batsman did not feature in the second Test as he was replaced by KL Rahul at the top of the order. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been recalled for the remaining three Test matches.

The other change had the surprise element in it as Wriddhiman Saha has been rested for the third Test for a strained left thigh and has been replaced by Parthiv Patel.

The 31-year old had made his debut three years before MS Dhoni did. He is now back in the Indian Test team after eight long years. He was playing as the captain of the Gujarat Ranji team and he has been extremely consistent with his bat in the ongoing season. As a result he has been rewarded with a place in the Indian team after eight years. Surprisingly, he played his last Test match against England back in 2008.

England on the other hand, will also make a change to their squad as they have decided to drop Ben Duckett and recalled Jos Buttler for the third Test.
