Colombo: India has won the toss and decided to bat first in the second Test against Sri Lanka. The team, coming off a win in the first Test, has made one key change to its lineup.
Off-spinner Saransh Jain is making his Test debut, replacing Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Senior player Ravindra Jadeja presented Saransh with his Test cap. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel has kept his spot at number six in the middle order, which means Sarfaraz Khan has once again been left out of the playing XI.
Sri Lanka, who lost the first Test, have also made two changes to their team. Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who came in as a concussion substitute for the injured Dinesh Chandimal, has retained his place. Kamil Mishara will be making his Test debut, replacing Nishan Madushanka who was dropped after the first match.
Team India is riding high on confidence after their convincing 165-run victory in the first Test. A win here is crucial for two reasons: it would be their first overseas Test series win since 2023, and it would keep their hopes alive for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Currently, India is in fifth place on the WTC points table with 53.33 percent of points. If they win this match and secure a 2-0 series victory, they will move up to fourth place.
However, despite the big win, India has some areas of concern. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's form is a major talking point, as he has scored only one half-century in his last eight innings. Fans are hoping he can overcome his struggles against pace bowling and find his footing at the crease. The Colombo pitch is not expected to be a complete spin-paradise, which could pose a challenge for both teams.
