Imran Tahir sets record, takes 7 wickets in an ODI

Synopsis

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir claimed the best ODI figures ever by a South African as he sent West Indies hurtling to a 139-run defeat in a match of the Tri-Nation series in St Kitts on Wednesday.

After a Hashim Amla century had helped the Proteas to 343, Tahir took seven for 45 in nine overs as West Indies were shot out for 204 in 38 overs.

In his 58th match, thus, Tahir surpassed Morne Morkel as the fastest South African to 100 ODI wickets.

“I’m really grateful for how things worked out for me today,” said a delighted Tahir. “It was a fantastic effort by the entire team and I’m just delighted to have played a part."

Earlier, Amla struck 110 off just 99 deliveries and took South Africa to a big total. Amla and Quinton de Kock (71) added 182 for the opening wicket, a new ODI record for the first wicket at the venue.
