
Former Indian footballer C Jabir,44, died in a road accident on Sunday night. The defender played for India in 1994-95 Nehru Cup tournament.
The accident took place at Musliar Angadi in Kozhikode-Palakkad National Highway on Sunday night. The car driven by Jabir smashed with a truck, seriously injuring him. Though he was rushed to a private hospital in Kondotty, his life could not be saved.
Jabir was a noted player of the Kerala Police team in the 90s and was a member of the team that lifted the Federation Cup in 1991-92. Kerala Police was a strong presence in the football scene then with IM Vijayan, CV Pappachan, Sharafali, Sathyan and Jabir on board.
He also played for Kerala in three consecutive Santhosh Trophy tournaments since 1994. Jabir was the Assistant Commandant in the Malabar Special Police.
