Can World No. 1 India beat Australia's home record?

Synopsis

Australia lost to South Africa by 177 runs at Perth on Monday. This ended Australia's streak of 18 consecutive home Test wins. Now, India is the only team to remain unbeaten in Tests at home since 2013.

After Australia lost the Perth Test against South Africa on Monday, India is the only Test team that has been unbeaten at home, since 2013.

While Australia were unbeaten on the home soil for 18 consecutive Tests, which is a record in the last decade, India so far have been unbeaten in 14 home Tests in a row.

With a long Test season stored for Kohli's side, they can well aim to pass Australia.

The last time India faced defeat in a home Test was back in 2012 against the same Alastair Cook team which beat the hosts by seven wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens. To make it worse, England also won the series 2-1.

However, the overall record-holder is neither India nor Australia.

Among the big three - India, England and Australia - it is the English that remained undefeated at home for the most number of Tests in succession, Australia stand second ahead of the Indians.

This is just the second time when Australia have lost the first Test of a series. Hobart is set to host the second Test between Australia and South Africa and Steven Smith and Co will aim to fight back to equalise in the three-Test series.
