The Indian women’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Vithya Ramraj, Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, and Prachi Choudhary, clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Tuesday, September 29.

India women’s 4x400m relay team grabbed the top of the podium with a time of 3:29.69, adding a fifth gold medal to India’s tally at the day of 10. Bahrain’s Aisha Abdullah, Sufian Abdulghani, Zainab Fyofuoba, and Salwa Eid Naser finished second to take home the silver medal with a time of 3:30.21.

China’s team of Jiang Yutong, Kong Yingying, Zhou Li, and Zuo Siyu settled for a bronze medal after finishing with a time of 3:31.02, surrendering their lead in the dying seconds of the race as India's anchor runner surged past them.

Until the penultimate leg of the race, it appeared India would likely finish at the lower steps of the podium, but a breathtaking burst of speed completely flipped the script. After Prachi Choudhary passed on the baton to Vithya, the star hurdler unleashed a ferocious pace down the home straight, storming past the Chinese anchor easily.

Vithya Ramraj increased her pace brilliantly to overtake the Chinese anchor and stayed ahead of Bahrain's closing runner in a nail-biting finish to cross the line first and secure a memorable gold medal for India.

Vithya Ramraj earlier clinched silver in the 4x400m relay mixed event and a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles, wherein she shattered legendary sprinter PT Usha’s 42-year national record of 55.42 seconds with a blistering run of 54.75 seconds.

The ongoing Asian Games 2026 was her second appearance at the quadrennial multi-sport Asian event, as he previously featured in the 2023 Hangzhou Games, where she clinched two silver and a bronze, adding to her growing list of continental accolades.
