The AFC Cup 2021 saw its opening game being played between two Indian giants, ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC, as it was the former that comfortably sailed past.

In the opening game of the 2021 AFC Cup, ATK Mohun Bagan was up against Bengaluru FC at the Rasmee Dhandu National Stadium in Male, Maldives, on Wednesday. It was ATKMB that was triumphant following a 2-0 win over Bengaluru.

It all began in the opening half, when skipper Roy Krishna put ATKMB ahead in the 39th minute, as the side led at half-time. Subhasish Bose followed the second and eventual winner in the opening minute of the second half.

Although Bengaluru dominated with the possession, it still wasn't enough to tackle the tactical genius of ATKMB, as the latter scored in its five shots on target. Meanwhile, Bengaluru could manage just three shots on target.

Bengaluru is winless against ATKMB since the 2019 Indian Super League. Also, Bengaluru skipper Sunil Chhetri could hardly impact the game and was substituted by Leon Augustine in the 68th minute.

In the meantime, ATKMB would be taking on local favourite Maziya Sports & Recreation on Saturday. As for Bengaluru, it faces off against Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings on the same day. The winners of the four groups clash in the semis.
