A source in the BCCI has informed the media that coach Anil Kumble will be paid ₹6.25 crore per year for his services. The source went on to add that the former Indian Test skipper has been straining every nerve to take the India to new heights in the coming days. That might be a bold claim, but one that does have a kernel of truth.
Kumble's stint as the Indian coach began with flying colours after the Virat Kohli-led India bested West Indies in the four-Test series, 2-0. The two sides are set to play Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in USA, starting Saturday.
The cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri was paid ₹7 Crore annually during his reign as India's team director for eight months from India's tour of England till the ICC World T20 2016. The contract was terminated immediately after India's elimination following their semi-final loss against West Indies.
Shastri was in the race to become India's head coach but a panel comprising of the Indian legends, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly chose their former teammate Kumble ahead of Shastri for the role.
