CPM vs RSS heats up, RSS workers hacked in Kannur

Synopsis

In a fresh bout of violence, two Rashtriya Swayam Sevak (RSS) workers were hacked by assailants near Muzhakkunnu in Kannur. The attack on Sujesh, a mandal karyavahak member and Santhosh is thought to be as part of the cycle of violence prevalent in the area over the past few days. Five other men were also injured in the attack.

The incident happened at noon on Thursday when a 30-member gang hurled crude bombs at a building and attacked the men.

On Wednesday, minor skirmishes between Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPM and RSS workers were reported during a procession taken out in connection with the Janmashtami festival.

In order to regain lost popularity among people in the region, the CPM has been celebrating major Hindu festivals like Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi in Kannur.
