Steel Bridge: Govt's toll plan requires new laws

Synopsis

Karnataka government has asked the BDA work on setting up a toll As per the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, no fee can be collected for roads and bridges within the BBMP's limits The government can make a new policy to consolidate financial resources

The government has also asked the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) to begin the process of setting up a toll.

Interestingly, as per the current laws on the books, the state government does not have the right to collect the toll. As per the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, no fee can be collected for roads and bridges within the BBMP's limits.

Tolls are being collected on NICE road, but the toll collection booths are situated outside the limits of BBMP. Even on Ballari road, that connects the international airport and on Tumkur road (NH 4), the tolls are being collected outside the limits of the BBMP.

However, the government can make a new policy to consolidate financial resources and presumably this change in the laws is also part of the plans for the steel bridge.
