The Karnataka state cabinet has approved a new set of guidelines for premature release of prisoners in a meeting presided by chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday.

Law minister TB Jayachandra announced the resolutions of the meeting. According to the resolutions and the provisions of Section 433A criminal procedure code (CrPC), male and female convicts who have completed 14 years of imprisonment and have crossed 65 and 60 years of age, respectively, will be eligible for early release.
