Sree Kerala Varma College in Thrissur witnessed major clashes between Sangh Parivar and SFI activists during a protest meet held outside the campus. As many as 19 persons were injured in the clash which lasted for an hour.

The protest meet was organised by ABVP activists, who were former students of the college. Both student wings resorted to attacks using logs and sticks and stone pelting. Unrest was prevailing in the college after a row over the conduct of Women's Day programme on March 8. ABVP wanted to erect a flex board on the campus, but SFI activists opposed the move. They were of the opinion that flex boards and hoardings are not allowed inside the campus.

ABVP held a protest meet on Friday against such incidents.

An eyewitness said the activists of both outfits resorted to heavy stone pelting and violence. The fight outside the compound then spilled into the campus. The police came to the spot and brought the situation under control after dispersing the protest meet of ABVP.

The injured students are admitted to hospital.
