Prime Minister should intervene in Mahadayi issue: CM Siddaramaiah

Speaking at an emergency press conference on Wednesday, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah claimed that there was a need for Prime Minister to intervene in the matter.
Karnataka’s plea to release 7.5 tmc of water to the villages in the state as drinking water has been rejected by the Mahadayi Tribunal. However, a clause does exist which says no state shall refuse the releasing of water for drinking purpose.
To discuss the matter and take a decision, an all-party meeting will be held. "After the meeting, we will form a delegation, which will meet the Prime Minister," the CM said.
Speaking further, he said, “When it comes to our land, language and water we have not played politics. We have requested PM Modi to speak regarding the issue. We are also contemplating on taking the matter to the Supreme Court.”
Request to withdraw bandh
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked the people of north Karnataka to withdraw their bandh.
“We have not received complete information on the verdict yet. We have spoken to the advocate representing our case. We will take necessary action once we get more information on the verdict.”
“People from North Karnataka should not resort to a bandh. The state government will use all its power to fight legally as well as politically to get water to the North Karnataka,” he added.
