Pinarayi Vijayan slams Modi govt. in Italian Marine case

Synopsis

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has slammed the Modi government for allowing the Italian marine, who allegedly shot Indian fishermen off Kerala coast, to go home.

Vijayan alleged that the central government was playing a sloppy game for the Italians. The government's stand at the  Apex court on Thursday favoured the marines, he said.

The Supreme Court relaxed the bail norms for Salvatore Girone, one of the two Italian marines arraigned in connection with the death of two fishermen in 2012.

The death of two fishermen, who were shot at by the Italian marines who were in charge of the security of  oil tanker MV Enrica Lexie, in February 2012 had evoked a national outrage. The two marines were detained in India that led to diplomatic tension between India and Italy.
