CCTV captures panchayat president molesting woman

A president of a village panchayat in Maddur Taluk attempted to rape a woman employee on Thursday. The matter surfaced on social media after a CCTV footage was released showing Chandrahas, the panchayat president, forcing himself on her. 

On May 26, the staff at the panchayat office had left, and only Suma, a group D employee, and Chandrahas were working late. The video, which has gone viral, shows Chandrahas lifting the woman and trying to molest her. According to the News Minute, the next morning Suma informed her co-workers about te incident. The victim, who is a widow, stated that Chandrahas tried to rape her. “He pulled me and I shouted. Then again he called me and tried to lift me. I escaped from him and went home,” she said.

When the employees confronted Chandrahasa he claimed that he had only asked her to sweep the floor. After seeing the footage, the panchayat employees thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Police said they have arrested Chandrahas and are probing the matter. 

This incident has shocked the entire village, and they have demanded that the accused be sacked from his post immediately. Chandrahas was elected as the president of Kesturu village panchayat last year from JD(S).
