Acclaimed filmmaker Ranjith couldn't have announced his forthcoming project with superstar Mammootty at a better time. The movie is titled  Puthen Panam: The New Indian Rupee and is based on black money market and unaccounted wealth.

The announcement of the movie has come at a time when the Indian government made a 'surgical strike' on illegal money in the country.

In fact, this is not the first time the director is making a movie on black money. His 2011 release Indian Rupee'starring Prithviraj and late actor Thilakan was also based on a similar theme, and the movie went on to bag national and state film awards for the best movie.

Loham, Ranjith's last film with Mohanlal was based on gold smuggling  and it is not a surprise for the director's fans that his next venture too picked one of the burning issues in the country.

Puhthen Panam: The New Indian Rupee  is scripted by Ranjith himself. Om Prakash, one of the most well-known cinematographer in the Kollywood, has been roped into helm the camera for the movie. Other star casts include Renji Panicker, Sai Kumar, Siddique, Joju George and Ineya.
