
Kerala police on Sunday arrested the prime suspect in the blackmailing case in which a six-member gang extorted money from government officials and businessmen after cajoling them into a honey trap. The arrested is identified as Anjali alias Priya, a native of Iravipuram in Kollam.
The police had arrested four persons including two women, on Saturday, after a tip off. The arrested is identified as Anu, 26, Sanu, 19, Deepa, 36 and Sheeba, 30, all hailing from Thiruvananthapuram. Another suspect is still at large.
The police said that the gang operated just as Shobha John, the notorious woman gang leader of Kerala, did. The arrest of the lady don a few years back, who blackmailed Chief 'Thantri' of Sabarimala temple,was big news in Kerala. One of the females of the gang would befriend businessmen and government officials through phone calls. She would then ask the person to come to a house where other women would also be present. They will lock him up in the house after which the men in the gang would enter the scene, beat up the victims and take their photos along with the women. The gang used to extort money by blackmailing their victims using these photographs, the police informed.
The gang members confessed that they blackmailed eight persons so far and have extorted huge sum from their victims .
