Malappuram District Collector has ordered against Malayalam filmmaker Kamal inaugurating the regional film festival at Nilambur in Malappuram after the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) raised an objection. The IUML had warned that it would amount to the violation of model code of conduct. However, director Kamal, who is also the chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy, said that he would participate in the event as an organiser.
The IUML leader KNA Khader filed the complaint the other day amid strong rumours that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) may field Kamal as its candidate in the Malappuram LS by-election scheduled to be held on 12 April.

The Kerala Chalachitra Academy is organising the week-long film festival at Nilambur in Malappuram from 17 March. Kamal was supposed to inaugurate the festival. A press brief on the film festival stated that Kamal would inaugurate the festival.
Meanwhile, Kamal dismissed rumours regarding his entry into electoral politics. "Now, my aim is to complete 'Amy,(his upcoming biopic on the writer Madhavikkutty)," Kamal said. He also stated that he would participate in the film festival as an organiser.
