Bishop in Kerala to donate kidney for ailing man

Synopsis

The day pope Francis announced an extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy, Bishop Mar Jacob Murickan of Pala Diocese took the call for compassion to heart. The Bishop wanted to help somebody in need. He then came to know about Sooraj’s condition from the Kidney Federation Chairman Father Davis Chiramal.

Without a second's thought, Murickan conveyed his willingness to donate his kidney to Sooraj, a Thrissur native and the breadwinner for his family. Sooraj was diagnosed with a severe kidney-related ailment two years back.

On Friday, May 27, the authorisation committee for unrelated donors gave its consent for the Bishop's organ donation. If everything goes as planned, the surgery will take place on June 1 at a private hospital in Kochi.
