Better to be a cow than a Dalit in India: Congress

Synopsis

The Karnataka Congress slashed out against the BJP today, against the backdrop of atrocities against Dalits in Gujarat.

"BJP leader Dayashankar Singh called Former CM of UP Mayawati a prostitute. This is the kind of respect BJP has for Dalits and woman in general. In Gujarat, Dalit youths engaged in the leather trade were beaten. The BJP, through such perpetrators, is trying to achieve Hindutva administration. In that ideology, Dalits, Muslims, Christians, Backwards, Tribals and other minorities will be ill-treated and beaten," said President Dinesh Gundu Rao.

He demanded the sacking of Gujarat CM for the attacks on Dalits.

Rao said, "There is feeling among many that, it is better to be a cow than a Dalit. Then at least, persecution by the Right Wing, which is backed by the BJP, will stop."

Rao further criticised the Modi government, adding that the Karnataka government alone had announced ₹20,000+ crore for Dalit and Tribal welfare and many schemes were being implemented, but the Modi government had cut the budget size for the development of such communities.
