After police, now woman officer attempts suicide in Hassan

Additional Commissioner Vijaya tried to hang herself in her residence on Thursday. Sources said that too much pressure at work made her take the extreme step. Currently, she is being treated in a hospital.

Vijaya was recently transferred to Hassan Institute of Medical Science as an administrative officer. However, she had managed to bring a stay on her transfer order and had continued as the additional commissioner.

This was not taken well by the general public, as there were reports of protests against her continuing as the additional commissioner in Hassan. Amid rumours of corruption, it is also said that she faced political pressure.

Vijaya, who hails from Kolar, was living in BM Road police quarters. Just before attempting suicide, she called Hassan Additional Superintendent Shobha Rani, who was her neighbour, and said that she was taking the extreme step.

a shocked Shobha Rani informed other neighbours, who rushed to Vijaya’s house, broke open her door, rescued Vijaya and admitted her to the hospital.
