10 animal skins burned after being seized from poachers in Bengaluru

The Karnataka Forest Mobile Squad seized as many as 10 animal pelts from poachers and burned them in forests on the city outskirts on Thursday

Bengaluru: Karnataka Forest Mobile Squad members seized almost 10 skins of jackal, leopard and spotted deer from poachers and burned them at Jarakabande Kaval Forest on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Thursday.
Rajkumar D, wildlife warden, said that it is better to burn animal parts rather than allow them to remain in a godown or re-circulate them in order to create more demand for the product. He is also reported to have said that burning animal parts sends out a clear message to poachers and those who collect animal skin or pelts for religious purposes.
Officials stated that the pelts were related to old cases and were cleared by courts for discarding only recently.
