Synopsis

Stocktwits data showed retail sentiment has improved to ‘bullish’ on SPY and ‘neutral’ on QQQ from ‘bearish’ earlier in the week.

  • All eyes are on the Federal Reserve’s policy decision and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s first meeting at the helm.
  • Investors will focus on commentary around inflation, AI-driven productivity gains, and balance-sheet reduction plans.
  • Cautious optimism follows another record close for the Dow Jones Industrial Average on Tuesday.

U.S. stock futures rose ahead of the Federal Reserve’s rate decision today, building on momentum from the previous session, which saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average notch its second straight all-time closing high.

Investors are locked onto newly appointed Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's first policy meeting today. While rates are expected to remain unchanged, Warsh’s stance on AI as a disinflationary force and his desire to shrink the Fed’s balance sheet could spark market volatility, according to Dan Niles, founder of Niles Investment Management.

As of 4:00 a.m. ET, Nasdaq futures rose 0.9%, S&P 500 and Russell 2000 futures gained 0.3%, while Dow futures were flat.

However, on Stocktwits, retail sentiment for the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY), an exchange-traded fund that tracks the S&P 500 Index, has flipped to ‘bullish’ from ‘bearish’ a day ago, and the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) ETF, which tracks the Nasdaq-100 Index, has improved to ‘neutral’ from ‘bearish’.
