China will reportedly approve purchases of Nvidia's (NVDA) H200 AI chips into the country only under special circumstances.
According to a report from the Information, as per two people familiar with the matter, the Chinese government informed technology companies that the American chips would only be permitted when “necessary,” without providing much additional detail.
The directive was "deliberately vague," the report said, instructing some technology companies to import the chips for special tasks such as university research.
Shares of NVDA were up 0.14% at the time of writing.
