4 must-do hiking trails of South India

Synopsis

These are the must-do walking trails in South India

Want to get one with nature, or just clear your head by heading out of the maddening crowd? Here are some gorgeous hiking trails to explore South India.

All you need is a good pair of shoes, and a reasonable amount of fitness.

Araku Valley, AP:

At just a hop, skip and jump away from Tirupathi, Nagalapuram is known for its waterfalls, and the trek to it. It’s thick natural vegetation provides a natural shade for hikers who make the 12-km walk which takes around 2.5 hours to complete. The highlight of this trek is the pristine water at the main falls. In fact, the way to the main waterfall, is dotted with smaller water bodies, so,  you can take ample breaks before reaching the main waterfall.

Chembra Peak, Kerala:

Lush and verdant, the Chembra Peak is a sight to behold at 2, 100 mtrs. While the trek itself is not strenuous, it is at a distance of 9 kms. One of the highlights of this trek is the heart-shaped lake called “'hridhayathadakam”. Avoid heading here during the monsoons because it can get treacherous.

Kumara Parvatha Trek, Karnataka:

Nestled in lush greenery the trek to Kumara Parvatha  stands tall at a height of 1712 mts, which is the second highest in Coorg. If you’re a beginner, it is advisable to try a lesser hike. This is ideal for those who’ve trekked before. You can camp overnight at any of the designated camping spots.

Perumal Trek, Tamil Nadu:

Want a view of the Nilgiris? Then get your hiking boots and head off to the Perumal Trek route. It’s the highest peak in Kodiakanal. It takes about four hours to reach and come back down.
